Prevention Vs. Maintenance Vs. Correction
Client: “You are so lucky…you do not need any of this stuff.”
Me: “Oh, but I do! I look like I do not need anything because I basically have been doing everything for years. I do botox every 3 months, microneedling sometimes with PRF, sometimes without, a few times a year, chemical peels a few times a year, and dermal filler 1-2 times a year to maintain my look.
Client: “Really!?! You are so young, you look like you are in your 20’s.”
Me: “Thank you, I am in my mid-30s. It is all about prevention and maintenance!”
This is a typical conversation that I have multiple times a day. Prevention is KEY in life! I mean, don’t wait until you see signs and symptoms of a major health issue. Rather, go to your doctor for preventative check-ups, maintain a healthy diet, and exercise regularly to help considerably decrease the risk of that major health issue. Often times, it is an issue that could have been prevented or easily managed because it could have been diagnosed sooner. When the issue is advanced, sometimes it is hard to manage or correct the issue. The same goes with aging.
Do not wait until your skin has deep wrinkles and brown spots from not taking care of yourself. Do not wait to do your first treatment with me when your wrinkles are so deeply etched into your skin that we need to correct the issue. Instead, it is best to come in when you are starting to see the fine lines, so I can help you in the most minimal way and prevent things from getting worse. It will be much easier to maintain in the long run. Plus, it will keep you looking like yourself longer.
I make it a point to treat each client individually. Everyone has different needs depending on genetics, lifestyle, and many other factors. But there is one thing to take away that is the same: YOU WILL AGE. The question is; how will you age? Some might become gaunt, others have heaviness in the lower face, some quicker than others, etc. But it is a lot easier to age elegantly if you start seeing me earlier. Let’s consider the use of Botox.
Botox is a neuromodulator that helps reduce the muscle activity that causes many types of wrinkles. When a person starts coming to me in their 50’s, I am often doing corrective work which will require me to use a significant amount more Botox at more frequent intervals than a person in their mid 20’s. For clients who start young, a conservative amount can be used while likely coming in less frequently even as they age due to a decreased strength of the muscles. This then allows for the client’s look to be more easily maintained.
Yes, some age differently. But usually the main thing is not so much that he or she is just “lucky,” it is likely that he or she has been taking care of themselves through the regular use of things such as chemical peels, microneedling, Botox, dermal filler, or even better, a combination of all of the above. It is never too late to start taking care of yourself, but the sooner you start, the easier it will be to manage and maintain.
XOXO,
Dr. Sam
