What is Microneedling?
MicroNeedling, also called Skin Needling or Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) is an aesthetic medical procedure that involves repeatedly puncturing the skin with tiny, sterile needles (microneedling the skin) in order to induce endogenous production of cutaneous collagen.
Percutaneous collagen induction ( PCI ) therapy or medical microneedling is a technique where a fractional microneedling device with fine microneedles has been shown to increase the remodeling of the skin by creating thousands of microscopic channels through the skin, to increase the formation of new tissue by activating the body’s wound healing cascade (hemostasis-inflammation-proliferation-tissue remodeling). It is also referred to as a non-ablative skin treatment. This means that the deeper parts of the skin are treated without removing the top layer of skin. It is designed to treat various skin conditions such as fine lines and wrinkles, light scarring from acne and photo damage, and to improve skin color and other skin texture changes.
What is the Principal Behind Microneedling?
The idea behind CIT is similar to that of many other non-surgical skin-tightening procedures in that it aims to create a controlled Non-Thermal injury underneath the skin’s surface, thereby inducing the body to respond through the formation of new tissue layers of elastin- and collagen fibers (neocollagenesis) as well as new capillaries for an improved blood supply (neo-angiogenesis) in the treated area. The skin plumps and thickens in response to this stimulus, ultimately reducing the appearance of scars, and fine lines and other skin texture changes. It can be used off-label to perform treatments that improve the delivery of drugs. Whenever we can generate openings in the skin we have an opportunity for topical to penetrate more readily through the channels created.

Are All Microneedling Devices the Same?
The simple answer is no. Currently there are only 2 devices on the market that are FDA cleared. And even those 2 devices are different. We use Exceed by Amiemed. Unlike other micro-needling devices, EXCEED comes with the highest level of industry approvals available. It is the world's first and only device that has double FDA cleared as a class 2 medical device. It is clinically proven to treat acne scarring, to reduce the depth of scars and to normalize the skin structure for both acne scarring and wrinkles. Feel free to learn more about it here.
Microneedling VS. Dermaroller
DERMAROLLER FLAWS:
- Excessive & undesired trauma
- Cross-infection risks
- Too large for small areas
- Lacks accuracy & consistency for speed & depth
- Up and down movements prevent excessive trauma
- Disposable pinhead - No risk of cross-contamination
- The small tip helps treat hard to reach areas
- Very accurate & consistent speed & depth
What serums do you microneedle with?
There are a variety of serums you can microneedle with. Most practices use a low percentage of hyaluronic acid. This is mostly used as a glider, not to actually put a lot of hydration or other ingredients that are beneficial into the skin. However other things that can be used are PRP, PRF, AnteAGE MD serum, Anteage MD Brightening solution, Tranexemic Acid, Botox, snail egg growth factor serum, and the list goes on. Our regular microneedling utilizes the AnteAGE Hyaluronic Acid that is actually a high percentage of high molecular weight (so you are actually getting more than just a gliding solution, you also get hydration). We do typically recommend individuals to add on the Anteage MD serum or Atenage MD Brightening serum depending on what their concerns are. Our Escargloneedling utilizes the above as well as a snail egg growth factor. We believe in giving our clients quality treatments and we feel that utilizing the best ingredients helps provide optimal results. And depending on what your main concerns are, we also customize these treatments by adding in things like tranexemic acid and Botox to address your skin's individual needs.

What makes AnteAGE MD Microneedling Brightening Serum different?
AnteAGE MD® Brightening Microneedling Solution contains contains pro-healing, anti-inflammatory growth factors and cytokines derived from laboratory culture of human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, the specialized cells that science has determined function as “command and control” of healing in all injured tissues. Synthesized human TGF-B3 is added to further reduce inflammation and promote less fibrotic, more fetal-like healing. Hyaluronic acid provides lubrication and is a powerful humectant that promotes rapid re-hydration and volume enhancement within the upper layers of the skin. AnteAGE MD products contain no cells or cell remnants. They are removed during ultrafiltration, the final step in the laboratory culture process.. This solution also has an added boost of Tranexamic Acid and other melanin synthesis blocking actives. Our unique brightening treatment corrects uneven skin tone and encourages a naturally lighter complexion.
Formulated to attack eight different pigmentation pathways, our AnteAGE MD® Brightening Microneedling Solution is the only product on the market to effectively brighten and target discoloration at the cellular level without drying, irritation or inflammation.
High molecular weight, hyaluronic acid provides lubrication and slip for your microneedling device and is a powerful humectant that promotes rapid re-hydration and volume enhancement within the upper layers of the skin.

What areas can be treated?
The microneedling pen can be used on all skin types and is a valuable tool to treat a variety of skin concerns such as: facial rejuvenation, scarring (acne, surgical), stretch marks, pigmentation disorders and alopecia.
What will the treatment feel like and how long is the downtime?
In most cases, a topical anesthetic is applied to the skin prior to the microneedling treatment to reduce discomfort and most clients report the procedure as pain free. The downtime is minimal; however clients may experience redness for 12 to 48 hours afterward. Some clients may scab depending on how intense a treatment he or she desires.
When will I see the results?
Usually you will notice some improvement after the the first or second treatment. More significant results will occur after 4 to 6 treatments spaced a minimum of 14 to 30 days apart. Collagen remodeling takes place over time. Skin will continue to improve over the next 6 to 12 months post microneedling treatments with proper skin care regimen. Results will vary in each patient.
Am I a good Candidate?
Clients with the following are not good candidates for microneedling:
- Clients with a history of Keloid Scarring
- Current or Prior Use or Accutane (oral isotretinoin) within the last 6 months
- Active infection or open wound in treatment area (s)
- Clients with bleeding disorders or those on chronic anticoagulant therapy
- Any clients with significant autoimmune diseases
- Any clients with immunosuppressive disease or on immunosuppressant medications
- Pregnant or Breastfeeding clients
*Disclaimer: Although all skin types can be treated, some patients may pigment from microneedling and a test spot is recommended.
